what is interchange-plus?
"The fairest method in all the land" - interchange plus is the model that all large merchants will demand (who aren't using surcharging/cash-discounting). It works by adding a small, constant margin onto the provider's costs. It's transparent and fair.
why does it make sense?
Interchange is, simply, the "base cost" of any credit card sale. It's what your provider pays to your customer's banks, in order to cover risks and operational costs of a credit card. By adding a constant margin to our costs, you know you are getting a fair rate, on every sale.
what are the downsides?
It can be a bit complicated to understand, and monthly costs will fluctuate. Because interchange is dependent on the types of cards your customers hand you, it'll always be a little different every month. As such, your overall fees will have some variance month over month.
